Interested in helping horses help kids? Become a sidewalker at hippotherapy!

Cause Areas

It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

Saturday morning to early afternoon volunteers needed to be assisstants in hippotherpay (kids doing therapy while on horseback). We also have some need of help during the week on this project. In hippotherpay we have a special needs child on the horse, a person handling the horse, a therapist and one or two sidewalker assistants who move along beside the horse and rider. These assistants play games with the children and serve as safety personnel as needed. The hippotherapy assistants also help with the horses to prepare for the day with grooming and other care. Hippotherapy assistants also help with barn chores to keep our barn nice.

An interested volunteer should be comfortable around horses and experience with horses is preferred. The volunteer needs to be able to walk for extended periods of time and be strong enough to lift 30-40 lbs. (not repeated lifting). We have found that longer term volunteers work best in our program so that the kids and the horses have some consistency in their days.

Please contact us and come on out to see what it is all about. It is a fun volunteer job. We look forward to meeting youl
