Donkeys
Susan and her colt Willie.

Brighten up our animals' day giving them their breakfast or dinner. Our farm animals need to be fed everyday, twice a day. On our site we have chickens, donkeys, horses, and longhorns. Volunteer feeders are responsible for giving the animals their grain and some hay for the day and in doing so will become their most favorite people. Feeders normally sign up for a recurring shift weekly or bi-weekly.
We are currently looking for feeders to help us on Monday and Thursday nights.

About Jourdan Bachman Pioneer Farm

Location:

10621 Pioneer Farms Dr., Austin, TX 78754, US

Mission Statement

Pioneer farms is a 94-acre living history museum where Texas history during the 1800s is authentically re-created on five fully restored home sites, representing the diverse lifestyles and cultures that were present in Central Texas. Classes and workshops in pioneering skills and trades, more than two dozen special programs for children, a thriving heritage artisans initiative to encourage handmade crafts, and Scout and 4-H programs bolster this unique educational experience. The site features 27 historically significant buildings and hallowed grounds that were once on the routes of both the Camion Real and Chisholm Trail.

Description

The park is managed and staffed primarily by volunteers, the largest operation of its type in the region. Our volunteers help with every aspect of the museum from feeding animals, historical interpretation, agriculture, office management, and events. First opened in 1975 for summer and nature camps, the park has grown gradually with additional programs and historical buildings. We currently have three working farmsteads, a Tonkawa encampment, a historic town square and are still growing.
