During my time as an equipment manager for the Syracuse University Football program & The Washington Redskins I personally threw away multiple boxes of sporting equipment. Ever since then, I have begun to notice how much sporting equipment goes to waste. Whether it is mom & dads garage or a professional sports team, we are wasting a huge amount of equipment. And did you know that children who participate in athletics are 60% less likely to drop out of school? Because of this I am collecting sports equipment to be donated to underprivileged children across the area. This opportunity is to volunteer to collect sports equipment from your school, church, synagogue, neighborhood and wherever else you think you can collect!
There are no specific requirements for this opportunity. Leveling the Playing Field can provide donation bins, flyers, brochures and invoices if necessary!

Mission Statement
The purpose of Leveling the Playing Field (LTPF) is to give underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of athletic involvement. LTPF collects donations of sports equipment from various collegiate athletic departments, county recreation departments, families and individual donors from across the nation. Studies show that students who participate in interscholastic athletics have higher grade point averages, attendance rates, standardized test scores, educational aspirations, health habits and feelings of connection and belonging. LTPF recognizes that giving children the prospect of athletics can change their lives!
Description
Leveling the Playing Field works to locate children living under the poverty line who are not being given a equal chance at athletic participation. We recognize the importance sport can play in a child's life. Whether it is simply to bring that child joy within their adverse situation or allowing a child to use sport to learn extremly valubale life skills, sport is vitally important to young people. Once we have identified an area of need, we work within the community to locate various sources of used/excess sporting equipment. We place donation bins, host equipment drives, and reach out to collegiate and professional teams. These tactics not only collect equipment to fill this need but also involves a whole community in a fun community service project.
