Career Development Intern
The Career Development program works with refugee clients who have a professional background and would like to pursue that professional career here in the United States. Many of our refugee clients were doctors, nurses, engineers, barbers, truck drivers and many other kinds of professions in their home country. The Career Development staff and interns work to help clients over several months to find pathways back into these careers.
- City Heights and/or El Cajon offices
- Minimum 4 month commitment
- 10 - 15 hours per week; between 8:30am - 5pm
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Career Development coordinators to support clients
- Help clients with professional backgrounds find and apply for jobs -- meet with clients and work one-on-one with them to develop a career path
- Create and develop a mentorship relationship with clients
- Help with resume writing, mock interviews and other interview preparation
- Perform research -- find what classes, tests or certifications clients might need to achieve their career goals
- Outreach to training institutions and employers
Qualifications:
- Experience applying for jobs and creating resumes
- Good research and writing skills
- Interest in learning about in-demand jobs and how to improve careers
