Caregiver Carebag Example

For most families, traveling to Winston-Salem for medical treatment is much like a long and tedious road trip, where they live off the few items they pack in their suitcase. Welcome bags offer a few extra treats to keep their mind of the hours in the waiting room or busy while their loved ones rest.

Those interested in assembling welcome bags may do so in sets of 20-40, and drop them off at the House between 8am and 8pm.

Items in welcome bags may include, but are not limited to:

  • Packs of gum
  • Puzzle books
  • Deck of cards
  • Individual tissue packs
  • Pen and a notepad
  • Candy bar or snacks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Note cards
  • Travel sewing kit
  • Crayons and coloring books

Mission Statement

The SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus provides affordable lodging in a caring environment for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for medical treatment.

Description

The SECU Family House is a caring and compassionate alternative to sleeping in a waiting room or an expensive hotel when faced with an out-of-town medical crisis. The Family House offers an affordable place to stay, support from staff and volunteers, and an array of ammenities to help caregivers and patients get through their medical crisis. Volunteers help make the Family House "more than just a place to stay."

COVID-19 UPDATE as of 5/22/20:

The SECU Family is currently reopened for guests.

Volunteers: In order to limit the number of people coming in and out of the house, all on-site volunteering is still suspended. At this time, we are not accepting homemade baked goods. We will update our volunteer opportunities with time.
