ORGANIZATION: YesLiberia

I am reaching out to you on behalf of non-profit organization, YesLiberia, Inc. We are in desperate need for a Video Editor with experience to edit two videos we would like to release online by 12/20/2013, before the Christmas holiday. We realize this is a tight window. Normally, we rely on volunteer/interns to help us (and they can learn/practice and we in turn provide them with experience and references) but, we were unable to recruit a person in time. We hope to be able to find a qualified person/s who might be willing to volunteer on such a short notice. Please consider this community service project.

This would be a virtual position so you can work from home!

Below is a little summary of the two videos and more information about YesLiberia.

I appreciate you taking the time to consider our request!

Best regards,

Video One

Photo Project: Cameras were sent to Liberia where children documented/told a story of their daily life through pictures. It has been recorded already. One edited video needed for online distribution. The purpose is to give people a better understanding of the needs of this community.

Video Two

Ultrasound Machine Project: A mobile ultrasound machine will be provided to a community in Liberia. The ultrasound equipment will provide expecting parents in Liberia the opportunity to receive an ultrasound that can help them determine overall health or risks associated with their pregnancy. Currently, only two hospitals have one in Liberia and one closes at 4pm because electricity runs out through a generator. The purpose of the video will be to give people the opportunity to see how their donations will help bring this technology to persons in Liberia.

WHO WE ARE

YesLiberia, through service-learning opportunities, focuses on enhancing the lives of disadvantaged children, while promoting intercultural understanding to foster global citizenship and improve communities in Liberia and abroad. This is all done through tuition assistance, basic health education and services, water wells, public toilets, provide senior citizens’ food vouchers, a sponsored community soccer team and currently projected to build a public library facility.

To date, we’ve given over 350 scholarships in Africa, partnered with 9 schools in Africa, worked with approximately 90 volunteers, and provided school supplies for over 3000 kids, sent 4000 text books and reading books to Africa, hired 4 interns in the USA with course credits benefits towards their graduations, and collaborated with student organizations at 8 universities across the USA. Simply put, if you’re a business, a student organization, or religious organization, we are the partner you’ve been looking for; if you’re a student with leadership skills, we are the place to build your resume; if you’re an individual or club looking for verification or proof to become a one-time or monthly donor, you’ve come to the right organization. Please contact us with any inquiries. We are eager to speak with you.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower young people through meaningful service learning opportunities in education, healthcare, and technology. We do this through strategic partnerships and learning models to utilize existing youth habits and uphold societal values in the communities we work.

Description

Conviction created YesLiberia. Daily the needs of underprivileged are ignored. We ignore their struggles because it’s easier to deal with the more important things in our lives-- like climbing the corporate ladder and saving money so we don’t become indigent. And some of us ignore their challenges because they bring back unpleasant memories we seek to repress. But disregarding the plight of the underprivileged yields no resolution. Then certain things happen to remind us their struggles exist no matter how hard we try to pretend our needs surpass theirs.

Jallah was convicted by several of those things over a short period of time. The prostitution of children in Thailand reminded him of Liberia. The rape and war in Congo reminded him of Liberia. The genocide in Rwanda reminded him of Liberia. He remembered his underprivileged past--a past where he was seen as less than elite based on his tribal and economic status and where his education came as a gift from the United Methodist Church.

Reminded, he became convicted to act and YesLiberia was founded to educate and help underprivileged Liberians whose plight he intimately understood.

YesLiberia is a 501c3 charity organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service since July 2009. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. YesLiberia is also registered at four government agencies in Liberia.
