About

The Family YMCA has a need for adult mentors for its Reach and Rise program--operated through a grant from the Department of Justice. We are looking for potential adult mentors for children 6th - high school ages. There is intensive training involved for you under the guidance and supervision of a licensed, therapeutic counselor or social worker. You will be helping a child referred to this program through schools, family, physician or other professional. There is initial 15 hr training prior to being paired with a mentee. Ideally, you will spend up to 3 hours a week with the child sharing common interests like fishing, hiking, playing basketball, arts/crafts, etc... We recommend that you call the Y/Diana Martinez for more specific information. The impact to a youth through this program through therapeutic mentoring is "life changing".
