Cyclovia Tucson
Join us to fill the streets with people, bikes, and fun for everyone at Cyclovia Tucson!

Adopt-An-Intersection Groups

You are invited to set up tables or activities near a major signalized intersection, which will give your group visibility as hundreds of people will be queuing up awaiting a green light. Your volunteers’ role is to stand in front of the participants with caution tape during red lights, while Tucson Police Department and Tucson Department of Transportation direct traffic. This is a great way to enjoy the day and to advertise your group or get out your message!

Intersection Volunteers

You will be stationed at man a 'soft’ closure at a neighborhood street along the route. You will help neighbors get in and out of their homes during the event. We encourage you to do something fun that will engage the participants and to sign up with a friend! There are morning and afternoon shifts available, so you can enjoy the event as well!

Super Volunteers

SUPER Volunteers are in charge of an information booth where information and merchandise will be available. You are the go-to person for questions about Cyclovia! You will greet and train intersection volunteers before their shift. We will have morning and afternoon shifts available so you can enjoy the event, too!

Outreach & Canvassing

Do you like taking walks? Do you like talking about Cyclovia? Then this is the job for you! Our outreach and canvassing team will be going door to door along the route informing residents and businesses of the upcoming Cyclovia coming to their area. Our canvassing team will also provide information about detours along the route and parking information. (Dates: March 23 and March 30)

Mission Statement

Living Streets Alliance Mission Statement: We aim to empower citizens, staff, developers and public officials to improve the livability of our public rights of way and street network to be more connective and convenient for walking and cycling, while simultaneously utilizing roadway improvement as a means of enhancing the urban environment and character of the greater Tucson region. The Living Streets Alliance seeks to inspire urban improvements for walking, cycling, public transit, and healthy community and neighborhood life through outreach, education, and advocacy pertaining to alternative modes of transportation and basic improvements to the physical condition and design of roadways and the public right of way.

Description

What is a Cyclovia?

Cyclovia ( / s i k l v i . /) n.
A Spanish word signifying the temporary closure of a network of streets to cars so that they become "open" to people. During Cyclovia anyone can bike, walk, skate and participate in fun, free activities.

One of the first and largest cyclovias in the world is held in Bogot, Colombia. Every Sunday and holiday, every week of the year, the city closes down over 70 miles of roadways to cars to invite people to bike, walk, talk, exercise, picnic, sunbathe, etc. in the streets. People from all backgrounds come together in this beautiful community-inspiring event.

Cyclovia in Tucson

Cyclovia gives people from the greater Tucson region the chance to enjoy great weather, see neighbors, friends and people from throughout the area, and get a little exercise - all on city streets that will be closed to car traffic and open to walkers, joggers, cyclists, skaters and all other forms of people-powered movement.

Motor vehicles will be detoured from the route allowing everyone the freedom to enjoy "open streets" safely and comfortably. Cyclovia isn’t a race, parade or competition. Instead, it’s a chance to enjoy Tucson from a new perspective (outside of the car). Walk your dog, roller skate, blow bubbles. Have fun because during Cyclovia, the streets are yours!
