About Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project

Location:

1507 E. 53rd Street, #618, CHICAGO, IL 60615, US

Mission Statement

The Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project (HPTHP) provides housing and a stable, supportive environment for up to two years for homeless families who are working on improving or developing the skills necessary to live independently. HPTHP partners with local congregations, organizations, and others, who provide volunteer mentors and essential financial support. The strength of HPTHP is in the positive relationship which develops between mentors and the families they are supporting.

Description

The Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project, based in Hyde Park and South Kenwood in Chicago, IL, but serving homeless families from the mid-south side of Chicago, provides housing, in market rate apartments, for up to two years, to homeless families that are motivated to gain the abilities to live independently. The adults in the family develop a plan to achieve the education, job skills, and other abilities needed to live independently. A team of two volunteer mentors work with the family for roughly one hour a week on actions in pursuit of the plan, most weeks of the year, for as long as the family is in our program (up to two years). The adult(s) in the client family, the mentors, and the Case Manager meet quarterly to update the plan.
