The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Under the direction of the Client Services Supervisor, the Volunteer Case Manager is responsible for building positive relationships with service members and veterans seeking services and to leverage that relationship to help them begin building strong financial futures.
These goals will be achieved through Evidence Based Practices of Solution Focused Approach, financial counseling, financial education and, when necessary, financial grants. Individualized training generally takes an average of 20 hours to complete and is provided in 4-8 hour blocks during regular business hours within the volunteer's availability. Following the completion of training, volunteer case managers may choose to work from the STEP offices or from home.
Benefits to the Volunteer:
Social work experience directly overseen by experienced Social Work Field Instructors
Increased awareness of basic financial strategies to build strong financial futures
Advancing interviewing and assessment skills
Opportunity to control work schedule
The knowledge that you are helping the Nation’s heroes, whether active duty or transitioning to civilian life
