Are you financially savvy? If so, you understand the value of math, comprehension, and analysis--in short, literacy! By volunteering with Seeds of Literacy’s Finance Committee, you can help us provide the best program possible to impart these very skills to the 66% of Cleveland adults who are functionally illiterate.
Seeds of Literacy is a nonprofit organization offering free GED preparation and basic education to adults in Cuyahoga County. We’re seeking individuals to help oversee the budget process, review internally prepared and audited financial statements, and develop the organization’s investment policy. Ongoing missions of the Finance Committee include maintaining networks, investigating collaborative relationships, and strengthening the organization in a challenging economic environment.
Interested members should have expertise in finance, accounting, auditing, and investing, and familiarity with government regulations (i.e. IRS Form 990). Committee members should also be willing to reach out to their community on behalf of Seeds of Literacy. The committee meets monthly or as needed, in person or by phone.
If you’re interested in supporting Seeds of Literacy in our mission to empower adults to succeed in our community, please contact Sharon Farrer at 216.661.7950 or sharonfarrer@seedsofliteracy.org .

Description
Seeds of Literacy brings together people of diverse backgrounds in order to help break a root cause of poverty: illiteracy.
Since 1997, Seeds of Literacy has provided free, one-to-one tutoring in basic education and GED preparation to adults in Cuyahoga County. A unique curriculum designed and developed by Seeds of Literacy and one-to-one tutoring optimize learning by building relationships of trust between the student and the tutor. Since this approach allows each student to work at her or his own pace and academic level while receiving personal attention and encouragement, students of all academic levels may be able to participate in the program.
Seeds has student retention and graduation rates that are twice the national average, is the only adult literacy program in the county to be nationally accredited by ProLiteracy, and is a 501(c)3 organization.
