Adults (older teens with a parent okay too) are invited to come out to Deer Lake in the Walnut Creek Open Space to help improve the growing conditions for almost 200 young, native trees. Volunteer for any or all of the following Friday mornings, 9-11:30: April 18 & 25, May 16 & 23 for this fairly physical yet rewarding activity. (Getting to the site requires walking on fire roads for about 2/3 mile.) For details contact bobs@wcosf.org

About Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation

Location:

PO Box 309, Walnut Creek, CA 94597, US

Mission Statement

The Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation works to preserve and enhance Walnut Creek's 2700 acres of open space and to educate area residents so that they can enjoy this wonderful resource.

Description

Our primary activity is doing habitat restoration in the Walnut Creek Open Space. We have ongoing projects at Bayberry Pond, Rock Oak, Indian Valley Pond, Deer Lake, and Fossil Hill. We do occasional work in other locations in the Open Space.

We also have a native plant nursery where we propagate many of the plants we use in our restoration projects.

When opportunities arise, we work to acquire additional open space lands.
