Do you love events---and enjoy making them successful? The last four years' Mint Juleps and Roses Derby Day events were HUGE successes netting $40,000 the first year, $70,000 the second year, $80,000 the third year and $87,000 in 2017! We are looking to make this "signature event" even bigger and better -- and we are shooting for the 100K net mark for S2018! This event is loads of FUN and MEMORABLE---but does require lots of "people power" to make it SUCCESSFUL! If this sounds like something you would like to help out with, let us know!! We need committee members and volunteers who can help with marketing and ticket sales, securing sponsorships and live and silent auction items, decor and creative activity planning, and setup and take down help on the day before, day of and day after. What could be better than planning for and spending Derby Day on a beautiful horse farm, dining under a big tent, enjoying great food and music--and supporting a wonderful cause? Please join us! You'll be glad you did!

Mission Statement

At SMART, we empower lives through the healing power of horses. Through therapeutic horse-related programs and activities our SMART riders and their families' quality of life is significantly improved. Through respectful partnerships with our horses, we create an environment that promotes a life of inclusion, respect, growth and independence.

Description

SMART provides an all-encompassing horsemanship program--where participants learn to groom and tack up their horses, ride to the utmost of their ability, and care for their horses afterwards. All of these horsemanship skills provide the participant with many physical, emotional and cognitive benefits. Some of these benefits include an increase in physical strength and stamina, an improvement in posture, balance and coordination, and an increase in attention span and independent skills. An increase in self esteem and a sense of empowerment are also gained from fostering a respectful, affectionate, working "partnership" with their horse. At SMART the movement of the horse, the connection to the horse, and the natural environment are all used to help heal the body, mind and spirit of each SMART participant.
SMART is a PATH Int'l, Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, Premier Center providing equine assisted services since 1987.
