About

Operation HOPE-Vista is an emergency bridge shelter for homeless families and single women, providing assistance and safe haven for clients while they work to find employment and affordable housing. Since 2003, our program has served more than 1,000 women, men and children from across North County San Diego. Volunteers can help with homework tutoring, making meals, playground games, craft projects, office work, reception area, facility maintenance, landscaping, overnight stays, reading a story or just sitting, listening and being kind to someone. Weekday shifts are from 3:45 - 6:15 pm and 6 pm - 9 pm. Weekend volunteers are needed 8am-12, 12- 4 pm and 4-9 pm. We do have an overnight shift available. The shift is from 9 pm - 7:30 am with security on campus at all times. The overnight volunteer has a private sleeping area and serves as back up to security staff, if needed. Sleeping in a homeless shelter can be a very powerful experience.

Requirements: Volunteers will have to attend a training session. A background check, costing $15, is required for anyone over the age of 18. If this cost is prohibitive please contact the Shelter.
