Housing about 120 vintage, classic, and special interest automobiles, our museum is filled with automotive history, which is a large part of Auburn's history as well. Our Volunteer Association keeps the museum running day-to-day. Volunteers handle admissions, work in the Museum Store, answer the telephone, guide tours and serve as gallery hosts, put together bulk mailings, detail and maintain the cars themselves, help with special events at the museum, assist the office staff with clerical work, and much more! With so many ways to help and so many things to do, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is always looking for positive, active volunteers of all ages interested in doing something for their community. Training is provided for all positions and scheduling is flexible. Come join our Volunteer Association and be a part of keeping history alive!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is to preserve, interpret and create passion for Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg automobiles and their heritage of innovation, influence, design and competition while meeting or exceeding the highest museum standards.

Description

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed nearly two million visitors from all 50 states and from over 40 countries since the museum opened its doors at Noon on Saturday, July 6, 1974. It inhabits the former Auburn Automobile Company’s international headquarters building, a place where history was made over 75 years ago! Many of the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg automobiles you see driving around Auburn, Indiana, each Labor Day weekend were designed and developed in this very building.

MSNBC News named the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum one of the "Top Ten Gearhead Destinations in the United States." It is easy for visitors to see why the museum has received such high national praise. This automotive mecca exhibits over 120 cars ranging from 1894 to 2002 and automotive displays on three floors. The museum has the greatest and most extensive collection of Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg automobiles in the world, and features the largest exhibit of Duesenberg automobiles on public display in the world!

Experience the passion as you step back through time to the golden era of automobiles. Walk the same hallways as the automotive giants of yesterday. Touring the museum will give you an impression of what a day at Auburn Automobile Company must have been like in the 1930s.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is part of an elite group, less than five percent, of the nation’s nearly 17,500 museums that have achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is one of only two automobile museums that are accredited. The museum earned its original accreditation in 1997 and has continually retained that status. Accreditation is a seal of approval from the museum field recognizing a museum for its commitment to excellence, accountability, high professional standards, and continued institutional improvement.

Much has happened from the time the museum doors first opened in 1974, but one thing that has not changed has been the museum’s dedication to promoting Auburn’s legendary automotive heritage on a national level. A visit to Auburn must include a visit to the nationally acclaimed Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. Nearly two million people can’t be wrong! The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Last admission one hour before closing. Gather your family while you are in town and make plans to visit the greatest automobile museum in the world. They will thank you for it!
