Mission Statement

The Welcome to America Project is a nonprofit organization that creates community connections and builds bridges of neighborly understanding by providing furniture, basic necessities, education, and additional resources to newly arriving refugees. We offer a simple welcoming gesture, but it is one that lasts a lifetime.

Description

The Welcome to America Project (WTAP) furnishes the bare apartments of refugees from war-torn countries who've been permanently resettled by the UN to Phoenix. We collect high quality furniture and household items from donors throughout Phoenix and, with a corps of local volunteers, we deliver these furnishings free of charge to refugee families who've just arrived after years of living in refugee camps around the world. They come with nothing but their memories and scars of terror and persecution, and we welcome them with a safe, comfortable home where they can start a new life and begin their journey to become U.S. citizens. Since November of 2001, we have furnished over 2000 refugee homes, logged thousands of volunteer hours, raised over $2,500,000 in in-kind donations, and won numerous awards for our grassroots work.
