The Valley

The NVT Internship Programme offers a unique and rewarding opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in the field of conservation while immersing themselves in the stunning coastal landscapes of South Africa. As an intern, you will not only contribute to the important work of a respected conservation NGO but also gain valuable insights into the operations of such an organization.

Joining our dynamic team, you will have the chance to work across our main programs, including Applied Research (social and ecological) in forests, fynbos, rivers, estuaries, dynamic coastal systems, and the marine space; Conservation; and Behavioural Change (community engagement & conservation education), providing you with a comprehensive understanding of conservation practices.

Education and community interns will work directly with underprivileged schools, educating students about the environment and empowering them to improve their communities. This role is crucial in nurturing the next generation of eco-warriors and addressing community sustainability at a grassroots level.

For applied research volunteers, the programme offers the opportunity to study some of the most pristine ecological systems on Earth. You will examine natural variations in ecosystems and assess firsthand the impact of climate change. Fieldwork will involve studying forests, fynbos (Only found in South Africa), local rivers and estuarine systems, coastal projects and the marine space providing you with invaluable field research experience.

We limit our intake to 4-5 interns at a time to ensure a personalized, hands-on experience for each participant. The programme is ideal for undergraduate or recently graduated biologists seeking meaningful career-related work experience abroad.
