Who we are: Science Club for Girls works to capture the interest of girls at a young age by exposing them to the magic of science in a collaborative learning environment. For 8-10 weeks each fall and spring, girls spend an hour each week in an afterschool based setting engaged in hands-on science based activities.

Who we seek: Science Club for Girls is seeking committed, energetic volunteers to lead these young girls. Past volunteers have included: undergraduate students, graduate students, medical school students, doctors, professors, lab scientists and engineers.

How we work: Led by 1-2 mentor scientists and 2 Junior Mentors (middle and high school students), groups of six to ten girls make observations, test hypothesis and keep journals as biologists, chemists, and physicists, and design and build various structures as engineers. The year culminates in a science fair where our young scientists show off their new skills to friends and family.

Your commitment: A volunteer commits about three hours a week to the club she is assigned to lead. She must be fully prepared for each week’s exploration. ALL volunteers MUST complete the mandatory Science Club for Girls Training and Orientation before leading a club.
