Master Wellness Volunteer Program

Are you interested in volunteering? Become a certified Master Wellness Volunteer! We provide all volunteers with 40 hours of health and nutrition training (conducted in-person and online), then dedicate our time giving back to the community. The in person training covering 14 hours of training is mandatory and will take place on January 21, 2020 and March 3, 2020. The rest of the training is online covering approx. 26 hours and can be taken remotely, from the home of volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities include teaching health and nutrition programs offered in Travis County, including weight loss program Step Up Scale Down, Nutrition and Health workshops with combination of lecture and cooking demonstrations, Diabetes prevention programs, health fairs and more.

Mission Statement

Texas A&M AgriLife Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M System. AgriLife Extension offers practical information for families: raising children, housing and environment, eating well, managing money, and staying healthy.

Description

The Master Wellness Volunteer training program, now in its sixth year, is an engaging series of day-long classes that provides volunteers with 40 hours of training in health and nutrition education. In return, the volunteers agree to give back 40 hours of service to their community.

A certification exam on the final day of training assures that each proud volunteer has the tools and knowledge needed to represent the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

The training focuses on Nutrition, Food Safety, Chronic Disease Prevention, Diabetes, and making Healthy Lifestyle Choices. The reasons Texans become Master Wellness Volunteers are as varied as the opportunities to volunteer.
