Holiday Volunteer Needs Description: Help our homeless families brighten the holidays. Provide food baskets for homeless families with children. Food baskets can include grocery gift cards and nonperishable food items. Adopting a Home Connection family for the holidays is another way to make the holidays happier for the homeless families we serve. If you enjoy gift wrapping, we always need help with that too! Other ideas would be to provide a weekend or holiday meal for our New Directions Shelter families, provide small "gender-neutral" gifts for a variety of ages for the shelter kids and/or bring in fun holiday- oriented activities (cookie decorating) for the shelter kids. These are all wonderful ways to bring the holiday spirit to the homeless families we serve.

Description
Hawthorn Hill has been helping homeless families with children for more than 26 years. Hawthorn Hill helps families in need of emergency shelter (New Directions Shelter program) and supportive housing (The Home Connection program) in our community. Families served are very low-income, and approximately 50% are of minority/ethnic status. During 2011, Hawthorn Hill served 153 homeless families, including 363 children, through our two programs who otherwise may have been living on the streets.
