The Northside Farmer's Market on Sundays needs volunteers to work the info booth, answering questions about the market and processing FoodShare transactions. Orientation and training for the Info Booth is provided on the market day.

FoodShare at the Market allows individuals receiving SNAP benefits (aka Food Stamps) to use their benefits to purchase healthy and locally grown produce and other food. FoodShare transactions make up 90% of the info booth work at the Market. Activity at the booth can be a little busy with transactions and answering questions, so it is helpful if you are able to multi-task and work well in a sometimes fast paced environment.

Ensuring everyone has access to healthy food is something that we're very passionate about at the Northside Farmers Market and we're looking for bright, friendly, and open minded individuals who share this passion. Getting to know the people of the Northside and helping others eat well, regardless of their status is something that makes being at the Info Booth so much fun!

The outdoor market operates on Sundays May to October and shifts run from 8:30am to 10:30am and 10:30 to 12:30pm. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in other market activities including info booth set-up and take-down. When you indicate your interest in the opportunity, you will be added to the volunteer e-mail list and receive a weekly schedule update where you can sign up for shifts.

Orientation and training is provided on the market day. Ideal candidates would be community oriented, have great people skills, and the ability to multi-task. This opportunity is best for individuals looking for an ongoing opportunity, that are preferably able to commit to at least one shift per month.

Description

On Sunday, June 5, 2005, exactly two years and 39 days after the one remaining local supermarket at Sherman Plaza was permanently closed, Madison’s Mayor Dave Cieslewicz joined market organizers, shoppers and musicians to mark the launch of the Northside Farmers Market. On Sundays from May thru October, vendors sell their locally produced foods at Sherman Plaza. In doing so, they ease area community members’ lack of access to fresh, nutritious, and affordable foods.
