We have an urgent need for in-person and remote volunteer tutors for our Daytime and Evening programs at our Ward 5 location (Langdon/Woodridge) and Ward 8 location (Congress Heights) for our Fall 2022 Term. Currently we are seeking volunteers for the following positions:
- Co-Teacher: Work as teacher-volunteer pair. Present lessons to class, lead class activities and provide one on one assistance.
- Class Assistant: Lead small groups and/or provide one on one assistance as needed. Teacher and Volunteer work closely, communicate regularly.
- National External Diploma Program (NEDP) Buddy: Assist learners as they work their way through the NEDP Program. Help the student to locate the resources they need or identify skills that the student will need to practice before moving on.
- Tutor: Be paired with individual learners seeking help in a particular subject(s) area (writing, math, reading, social studies, science).
- Digital Literacy Tutor: assist learners with logging onto their laptops and devices, accessing email and class schedules, using Kami and Schoology for assignments, and using Zoom
- Academic Coach: Work in small groups with targeted Academic level students who are "stuck" in either math or writing, but are close to passing the GED, by helping to improve their scores
- Career Counselor/Job Coach: Work with students to identify career goals, help write resumes and apply for jobs.
- Other Needs: Data entry support, Social media...Advocacy and Writing support.
Volunteers must present a negative rapid test within 24 hours or negative PCR test within 72 hours of serving on-site. Volunteers must also abide by all mask and social distancing guidances at the school. Fantastic opportunity to develop teaching and mentoring experience. Located in Washington, DC and serving residents ages 18 and older, we support more than 800 adult learners each year, whether they come to us looking to complete their high school education, gain a diploma, take college courses, develop job skills or advance in their careers.
We see adult education as the greatest lever for generational change: from increasing wealth-building opportunities to strengthening outcomes for children and families. It’s not just about the diploma or the career credential, but about building paths for economic self-sufficiency and a life of choice and opportunity.
