This Thanksgiving before sitting down for a feast, please join us to volunteer at the15 thannual Run for the Hungry!
Description of the Event:
The Run for the Hungry is a fun 5K and 10K walk/run and food drive benefiting over 370,000 of our fellow San Diegans facing food insecurity each month. Proceeds from the event go directly to the San Diego Food Bank’s hunger relief programs and the San Diego County Foodmobile program which is a home-delivered meal program operated by Jewish Family Services.
Volunteer Details: Race Day
VOLUNTEER CHECK IN TIME: Thursday, 24 November 2016 @ 5:15 A.M. SHARP! (NLT 5:40 AM)
VOLUNTEER SHIFT END TIME: Approximately 10:30 A.M.
EVENT LOCATION:Located at the center of Broadway Circle in front of Horton Plaza in the downtown Gaslamp District. Event Address: 324 Horton Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101
VOLUNTEER CHECK IN LOCATION: Volunteers should check in with Kevin Murphy at 5:15 -5:45 A.M. SHARP in front of the U S Post Office on Broadway Circle.
Please be sure to report to look for the VOLUNTEER CHECK IN SIGN!
DIRECTIONS TO HORTON PLAZA:
- Take any of the major freeways to downtown San Diego to 4 th Avenue.
- Take 4 th Avenue to Horton Plaza.
- Turn Right into the Horton Plaza parking garage located on 4 th Avenue.
PARKING:Volunteers have an easy option to park in the Horton Plaza parking garage. Please note that the Horton Plaza parking garage closes for volunteers to park at 5:45 a.m. Volunteers can leave their cars parked in Horton Plaza at no cost for the duration of their volunteer shift.
VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS:
The majority of tasks for this event will involve standing for long periods of time, so please wear comfortable shoes! Donuts from Krispy Kreme and Coffee will be provided.
Tasks will be assigned by the organizers the day of the event unless plans are made prior to the event. Families with children 6 or older are encouraged to volunteer!
Volunteer tasks include:
- Registration table
Race set up (Start and Finish Line)
- T-shirt/bag distribution
- Course monitors/marshals
- Two Water stops along course (First stop: On Seventh Avenue between Island Ave and Market Street)
(Second Stop: On Second Street between Sixth Street and West East Street)
- Finish line support/crowd control
- Post-race refreshments
- Post-race clean-up
IMPORTANT: Volunteer Shirt Pickup Information @ ROAD RUNNER SPORTS , TUESDAY, 22 NOVEMBER!
Be Ready! You can pick up your volunteer t-shirt/ assignment at Packet pickup on Tuesday, November 22nd at Road Runner Sports (5553 Copley Drive) from 11 AM - 7 PM. Please let Kevin Murphy know you are there to pick up your volunteer shirt and get your volunteer assignment brief for Thursday.
Better yet! We need volunteers for the Packet pick-up from 11 AM - 7 PM on Tuesday, 22 November 2016 with the following duties needed:
- Registration Bib Pickup
- T Shirt and Bag distribution
- Bag stuffing
Note: You may also get your volunteer shirt and assignment the morning of the event, but we do encourage volunteers to get their shirts and assignments ahead of time at Road Runner Sports T shirt Packet Pickup to make Race Day much easier for them!
We are counting on all volunteers for this shift, if you sign up please show up or cancel within 24 hours.
