ORGANIZATION: Open Doors for Multicultural Families

Do you have a passion for individuals with disabilities? Do you want to help provide family events for diverse communities?

Objective:

Assist Fam­ily Sup­port Spe­cial­ist and Event Orga­nizer in orga­niz­ing events, such as train­ings and fam­i­ly out­ings, to max­i­mize our capac­ity to serve mul­ti­cul­tural fam­i­lies with chil­dren who have disabilities.

Task and jobs before the event:

  • Help­ing fam­i­lies to reg­is­ter for the event two months prior to the event.
  • Food prepa­ra­tion one day before the event
  • Set­ting up chairs/tables/reconfigure the room
  • Dec­o­rat­ing for events/setting food area/art and craft areas/photo booth (for indoor event) 3-4 hours before the event
  • Meet­ings with the event coordinator
  • Help with trans­porta­tion arrangements

Task and job dur­ing the event:

  • Registration/ Greet­ing: check-in, help­ing parent/families to fill out three forms (peo­ple who know dif­fer­ent lan­guages are encour­aged to volunteer)
  • One-on-one sup­port to chil­dren with autism and related dis­abil­ity dur­ing the event
  • Food serv­ing
  • Clean up
  • Enjoy the event with Open Doors staff/ fam­i­lies and their won­der­ful children

  • Atten­tion to detail
  • Friend­li­ness
  • Cre­ativ­ity

Other Com­pe­ten­cies (skills, abil­i­ties, behavior):

  • Must pos­sess a com­mit­ment to the belief that all peo­ple have the right to dig­nity, respect, oppor­tu­nity and full com­mu­nity inclusion.
  • Must have a phi­los­o­phy that is con­sis­tent with the Mis­sion, Vision, and Core Val­ues of the organization

Com­mit­ment:

  • 10-15 hours per event
  • The vol­un­teer pledges to arrive on time and par­tic­i­pate in the day’s events
