Do you have a passion for individuals with disabilities? Do you want to help provide family events for diverse communities?
Objective:
Assist Family Support Specialist and Event Organizer in organizing events, such as trainings and family outings, to maximize our capacity to serve multicultural families with children who have disabilities.
Task and jobs before the event:
- Helping families to register for the event two months prior to the event.
- Food preparation one day before the event
- Setting up chairs/tables/reconfigure the room
- Decorating for events/setting food area/art and craft areas/photo booth (for indoor event) 3-4 hours before the event
- Meetings with the event coordinator
- Help with transportation arrangements
Task and job during the event:
- Registration/ Greeting: check-in, helping parent/families to fill out three forms (people who know different languages are encouraged to volunteer)
- One-on-one support to children with autism and related disability during the event
- Food serving
- Clean up
- Enjoy the event with Open Doors staff/ families and their wonderful children

- Attention to detail
- Friendliness
- Creativity
Other Competencies (skills, abilities, behavior):
- Must possess a commitment to the belief that all people have the right to dignity, respect, opportunity and full community inclusion.
- Must have a philosophy that is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the organization
Commitment:
- 10-15 hours per event
- The volunteer pledges to arrive on time and participate in the day’s events

Open Doors for Multicultural Families is a nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that families who have family members with developmental disabilities and special health care needs have equal access to culturally and linguistically appropriate information, resources and services.
