A Volunteer Tutor works with an Instructor to provide one-on-one and small group assistance to adults and out-of-school youth enrolled in the program. Your main role will be to provide assistance with the development of reading, writing and math skills and/or provide assistance with speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English to adults whose primary language is not English. Volunteers need to be flexible, patient, and respectful, but do not need to have prior teaching experience.

The Valley Opportunity Council's Adult Basic Education Program (VOC) is a place where residents of the Pioneer Valley can reach the goals that might have seemed impossible in the past. The VOC staff strive to make anything possible!

Description

What we do: Provide FREE classes in basic literacy, pre-GED, and GED preparation, Engish for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Citizenship.

Who we serve: Residents of Chicopee, Holyoke, and the surrounding Pioneer Valley area who are 16 years of age and older and not enrolled in public schools.

How to Volunteer: Call 413-324-6672 and speak to the Volunteer Coordinator. Be prepared to discuss what you are interested in:

1. Adult Basic Education (ABE) including GED classes

2. ESOL classes

3. General Tutoring

4. Outreach and/or office assistance
