Celebrate Ability

Northwest Special Recreation Association offers inclusion assistance for children and adults who have disabilities within the 17 park districts in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Supporting a child's desire to feel included among their typically developing peers can be equally rewarding for the volunteer and the child who has a disability. A wide range of opportunities are available including sports programs and before or after school activities. Inclusion assistance might range from repeating directions to pushing a wheelchair to helping a child make a new friend. In October 2013, NWSRA received the National Parks and Recreation Association’s Excellence in Inclusion Award for its efforts toward enhancing inclusion experiences for individuals with disabilities into park district programs.

Examples might include:

After school program Monday - Friday 2:40-6:00, school year, Elk Grove

Tae Kwon Do Saturdays 9:40AM - 10:30AM, Buffalo Grove

Swim Lessons 9:00AM - 9:50AM, Bartlett
