Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Western Dairyland RSVP Volunteers are taking on a project devoted to providing weekend food for children in need. Focusing on our young people, we will providenc packaged food, at no cost, for students to eat on non-school days, such as weekends and holidays. This project is available to all students up to 19 years of age. There are no income guidelines to receive weekend lunches, all children are eligible. Food will be sent home with students on Thursdays and can include food for all children within the home. RSVP Weekend FOOD 4 KIDS Project is seeking volunteers to assemle food packages for distribution to all Independence area schools, including HeadStart. Assembly Volunteers are needed 1 hour each week, Delivery Volunteers are needed 1 hour each week and food truck unloading Volunteers are needed for 2 hours once each month. Volunteers are needed 1 to 2 hours per week on Thursdays. We welcome and encourage you to volunteer.
