During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Now more than ever, we rely on volunteers to organize children's book drives so we can keep giving away new or like new, culturally relevant, high interest books to children who need them in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. If you have a spot in your garage or covered porch where donors can drop off books while remaining distanced, a book drive is easy to organize, helps build children's literacy, keeps books circulating, and generates good vibes! Most drives run from one week to a month long--it's up to you. Visit childrensbookproject.org for more details.

The Children's Book Project gives free books to children who need them for equity in literacy, learning, and life.
We distribute free books to children through homeless shelters, public schools, clinics, daycare, and community centers. Since 1992, we have given almost 3 million books to thousands of facilities serving hundreds of thousands of children throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. We aim to create a more socially just world by providing free books to under-resourced children. Literacy attainment is directly tied to academic achievement and lifetime outcomes, yet children in economically disadvantaged communities do not have the same access to books as their more affluent peers. The Children’s Book Project is committed to closing the opportunity gap and lifting up our community by raising readers.
We collect donated books, then count and sort them by subject matter and age level. Teachers, caseworkers, and other community workers come to our book site to select free books they want and need for the children they serve.
We'll work with your schedule.
This is a Virtual Opportunity, with no fixed address.
