Save The Bay!

Located in Westerly, Save The Bay's South Coast Center is home to our advocacy, restoration, and environmental education programs serving the South County and Coastal Ponds region from Narragansett to the Connecticut border. We are looking for dedicated and self-motivated volunteers to help care for the marine creatures, manage tanks, answer phones, assist with crafts and other projects, help visitors, and more. Training will be provided and internships are available for qualified candidates.

Requirements : Be friendly, outgoing, and willing to learn. Be reliable and able to help out on a consistent basis. Be able to stand up for most of a shift. Docents must be 18+ for the South County Center and 16+ for the Exploration Center. Background check required.

South Coast Center in Westerly
Location: 8 Broad St., Westerly, RI (map)
Hours: The South Coast Center is open Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Shifts are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m and 12 - 3 p.m. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m is also available.

Mission Statement

Save The Bay protects, restores and improves the ecological health of the Narragansett Bay region, including its watershed and adjacent coastal waters, through an ecosystem-based approach to environmental action; defends the right of the public to use and enjoy the Bay and its surrounding waters; and fosters an ethic of environmental stewardship among people who live in or visit the Narragansett Bay region.

Description

Save The Bay was founded on the community's desire to protect our most precious resource - Narragansett Bay. To do that, Save The Bay has focused on the development of a committed constituency for the Bay. Children and adults throughout this region have learned the tremendous value the Bay brings to our economy, our environment and our quality of life.

In defense of Narragansett Bay and its watershed, Save The Bay has watched over the activities and programs of the government and the citizenry that degrade the environmental quality of the Bay, basin, and watershed. Save The Bay provides educational opportunities for children and adults to explore the Bay, fostering a understanding and a sense of personal responsibility for the resource.
