Mission Statement
HIP Housing has been serving theSan MateoCountysince 1972, with the mission to invest in human potential by improving the housing and lives of people in our community. By providing creative, affordable housing solutions, our agency prevents homelessness, and enables individuals, seniors and families to live independent, self-sufficient lives in a decent, stable and affordable home.
Description
There is no one simple solution to the lack of affordable housing, so a central feature of our approach is to offer a variety of creative housing solutions designed to provide an opportunity for those in need to thrive. We do this not with a hand out, but with a hand up, through one of HIP Housing’s three unique and irreplaceable programs:
The Home Sharing Program : Links people who have room in their home to share, with individuals who need a place to live at an affordable price. This arrangement reduces housing costs for both parties and enables working people to afford to live inSan MateoCounty, helps struggling homeowners to protect their home from foreclosure, and seniors to remain independent in their home.
The Self-Sufficiency Program:Enables low-income families to transition to self-reliance, by providing what is necessary for them to succeed: housing assistance, case management, connection to education and job training, and referrals to valuable community resources.
The Property Development Program: Expands the pool of affordable housing for low-income residents by developing new, or acquiring existing housing.
