Did you know that:

  • only 44% of economically disadvantaged students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) are proficient in 3rd - 8th grade math?
  • Heart Math Tutoring recruits and trains volunteers to serve as one-on-one tutors for CMS elementary students who are behind in math?
  • 98% of students to date have met Heart Tutoring's program growth goals?

Your Addition Makes a Difference! Volunteer with Heart.

Our mission at Heart Math Tutoring is to ensure that all elementary students develop the strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success, by helping schools use volunteers as tutors. And, we are looking for volunteers to serve as one-on-one math tutors for the upcoming 2019/20 school year. Approximately 1,100 elementary students in 22 CMS partner schools will need tutors.

Heart Tutoring provides a fun way to build relationships with Charlotte-area elementary students while delivering academic skills crucial to their success. Volunteers commit 1 hour or 30 minutes per week starting in late September (often before work or during lunch). Heart provides an easy-to-follow curriculum with hands-on activities and games, and a staff person is on-site to make sure things run smoothly.

To view available school locations/times and sign up to be a tutor for the 2019/2020 school year, please visit http://hearttutoring.org/become-a-volunteer/. A member of our team will contact you via email in July with your school assignment and next steps.

With gratitude,

The Heart Tutoring Team
