What on Earth is that? I'll tell you . . . Friendly Caller volunteers contact patients or their caregivers on either Thursdays or Fridays to ensure they have all the supplies they need for the weekend and no concerns. This assists patients and caregivers in feeling confident during times of decreased contact by staff, ie. weekends. You'll work closely with the hospice team to address any concerns and share updated information.

Duties: Review request and assignment with referring case manager and/or volunteer manager. Make telephone contact. Conduct brief assessment of needs. Provide hospice nurse with the information obtained. Document contact according to policy.

Qualifications: Patience, compassion, flexibility, dependability and good listening skills and writing abilities are a must. A clear, respectful, and easily understandable phone voice. Ability to fill out paperwork and communicate results to Nurse or Volunteer Coordinator.

Description

Volunteers provide important services to the community. Whether it's providing companionship to a person in the final months or weeks of life, offering support to family members and caregivers, providing assistance in the office or helping with community outreach, the contributions of volunteers are an essential part of Interim Hospice & Palliative Care. And, there is no greater feeling than knowing you have made someone's day just by being you.
