About

Summary:

The Kentucky Science Center offers science-themed birthday parties to children of all ages every weekend the Science Center is open. Every party includes interactive science activities and demonstrations presented to highlight the particular theme. The Birthday Party Volunteer helps ensure that these parties are both educational and entertaining for children and their parents, making sure the birthday child has a day to remember! The Volunteer provides valuable assistance in both presenting and assisting with activities and demonstrations; room décor/set up and clean up, and party logistics, efficiency and organization.

What you’ll do:

§ Help facilitate science activities for parties of up to 20 children-helping children with the activities, asking and answering questions related to the activity so that children have an educational and engaging experience.

§ Help in setting up the party: room décor, activity staging and preparation, and clean up after the party

§ Assist with party logistics: passing out cake, supplies, greeting and checking in party guests

§ Take the lead as experience dictates in some or all of the operational and educational aspects of the party; lead the activity, perform the demonstration, etc.

When: Learning Facilitators are asked for a minimum service commitment of six months with 12 or more hours of service per month. Birthday parties are only offered on weekends; first parties of the day typically can start as early as 10am and final party of the day could start as late as 4pm. A typical party shift is 3 hours: 1 hour set up and takedown; 2 hours for the party.

How Much Science Do You Need To Know? For some positions, knowledge of basic science is helpful. However, if you have a passion for learning, we have plenty of resources to share. As a volunteer, your main goal is to make our visitors feel excited, inspired, and curious about science.
