Friendship Connection Mini Golf
Friendship Connection Freddy Hills outing!

Give someone the gift of friendship this holiday season! We are currently in need of volunteer friends in the Harleysville/Souderton/Quakertown areas.

The Friendship Connection helps encourage adults with intellectual disabilities to form meaningful, long- lasting friendships within their community.

How can you help? Become a friend! Pairs are matched based on common interests, age, and location. Each month volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 2 hours with their Friendship Connection friend. Special events are hosted throughout the year to help encourage stronger relationships.

Volunteer friends should be 18 years of age or older, be enthusiastic and motivating, and be willing to dedicate 2 hours per month to the program. No skills required; just a friendly face and willingness to serve others.

A criminal background check, valid drivers license and insurance, and references are required.

Please contact Nicole Sparango at Nsparango@peacefulliving.org if you or someone you know is interested.

Examples of how you can spend quality time with your friend each month:
Going to see a movie.
Going out to dinner.
Bowling.
Miniature Golf.
Sporting events.
Walks in the park.
Grabbing some coffee.
Crafting
Taking part in Friendship Connection special events.
And much, much, more!

Mission Statement

Peaceful Living’s mission is to create belonging for persons with disabilities within a faith-based community, The driving force behind that mission is our belonging model. We believe that true belonging is composed of 4 important parts. The first part is companionship in the form of a sincere relationship built upon mutual trust and admiration. Membership in a welcoming community gives individuals an opportunity to thrive. A sincere appreciation for the enthusiasms individuals we serve offer to their community help them feel that they’re contributing in their own special way. And finally Peaceful Living believes in caring for the whole individual by helping them live a life balanced in body, mind and spirit.

Description

The Friendship Connection pairs volunteers from the community with an individual with special needs looking for companionship. Extensive interest inventories are used to try and introduce individuals to potential friends that share many common interests and activities. Participants in this program have the opportunity to develop new friendships and connections in the community. We fully expect that these newly established relationships develop into strong, mutual friendships that provide great benefits to both parties. As one of the volunteer friends put it, "I came into the program thinking I was doing this as a way to help someone. As it turns out, I receive more than I give and that is why I still continue with it today."

Peaceful Living assures that each volunteer recruited is thoroughly vetted by criminal reference checks, personal references, as well as making sure they have a driver’s license and valid insurance. Once these volunteers are cleared to be paired with an individual they are asked to spend at least 2 hours together per month. Friendship pairs will also have the opportunity to participate in social activities throughout the year hosted by Friendship Connection.
