Make a difference in the life of someone who is HIV ! Become a buddy today.

Our Buddies (volunteers in the Buddy System) are matched with a PCAF client and encouarged to meet 2-3 times a month. Outings may include going on a walk, meeting for coffee or going to a park.Working directly with clients is a rewarding experience that can rarely be offered to volunteers. PCAF believes in the positive energy volunteers bring with them. By providing a listening ear and a smiling face, our Buddies significantly affect the lives and happiness of our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Socialize wtih your client buddy 2-3 times per month.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Comfortable with topics of sexuality, sexual orientation and sexually transmitted diseases
  • Socialable and friendly, with a desire to meet new people
  • Respect for differing perspectives

Commitment: Volunteers are encouraged to meet with their buddy 2-3 times a month, with a minimum of 3 month time commitment.

Training: All new PCAF volunteers must attend New Volunteer Orientation and pass a criminal history background check. Volunteers in the Buddy Program must attend an additional trianing specific to being a Buddy.

Benefits: Volunteers will gain experience working directly with clients; they will also have the opportunity to practice their social skills by befriending a client.

Mission Statement

PCAF, through education and service, prevents HIV infection, assists persons affected by HIV/AIDS, addresses related health problems, and combats associated stigma and discrimination.

Description

PCAF is a non-profit organization established in 1987 to respond to the needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS. In 2012 PCAF expanded its services by establishing a second office in Olympia, Washington. Today, PCAF serves Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis Counties.

PCAF is dedicated to assisting persons living with HIV/AIDS to meet their needs for food, housing, healthcare and personal support. PCAF provides personalized case management services to people living with HIV/AIDS and extensive outreach/education/prevention programming to help stop the spread of HIV and combat HIV related stigma.
