The Volunteer Tutor is responsible for providing instructional aide to assist students in achieving their educational objectives. The tutor will work with students individually or in small groups. The tutor will support Education For Scholars (EFS) in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment in which our students can take full advantage of the instructional program and the available resource materials.
Certified teacher or a student studying education with enrollment at an institution of higher learning.
If a college student, they must be maintaining or have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject they are tutoring.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with EFS, students, parents/guardians the learning community.
Ability to assist students in reading, writing, and mathematics as well as in their core subjects
Ability to work well with children and/or teens
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience in at least one of these areas:
Background to include activities that involve students or an interest in working with school-age children.
Experience working or currently being trained to work in an instructional environment.
Experience or currently being trained to work in the areas of child development and/or education.

Orientation or Training
Volunteers may be required to help more than one student a week. Each tutoring session must be at least one hour.
Tutors may be current or retired classroom teachers. We will consider college students as well as professionals that meet the required qualifications.
