VITAS is looking for kind and caring people to help terminally ill patients and their families. Friendly visits, simple errands, providing a listening ear and the gift of friendship at a crucial time can make a real difference in another's life. Yours, too! Responsibilities include providing respite care (sit with a patient while the caregiver takes a break); friendly visits to patients and their families at home or in a nursing home; reading; writing letters, playing games, run errands to the grocery store, drug store, post office.

All volunteers must attend a comprehensive orientation to gain the knowledge you will need to work with terminally ill patients. These are currently held online via Zoom and/or via self-study.

In order to comply with the State of California’s COVID requirements, all volunteers must have one of the two items below.

  1. Be fully vaccinated with booster (proof required) with no testing requirements
  2. Apply for a VITAS vaccine exemption (reviewed on a case-by-case basis) with proof of weekly negative tests required

Description

Volunteers are the heart of VITAS Healthcare, providing friendly, non-medical support to hospice patients and their family or offering support services in the office. We are seeking caring and compassionate individuals to volunteer for our patients in their homes or in nursing facilities in your community throughout San Diego County.
