About

We have two programs, FAMILY CONNECTIONS and COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. Both operate in various communities throughout San Diego County.
Family Connections - 12 facilities year-round in San Diego County - Afternoon, evening, and weekend volunteering opportunities available.
Rare opportunity to make a profound impact on children enduring the difficulties of having an incarcerated loved one.

  • Workshop Facilitator - empowering incarcerated individuals to be positive reading role models for the young children in their lives. (Jails, Juvenile Detention Facilities, State Prisons)
  • Videographer - Create meaningful videos of incarcerated individuals as they read a story to a child at home. (Jails, Juvenile Detention Facilities, State Prisons)
  • Book Drive Coordinator - Lead collection of quality children's literature which is made available for the participants to read and the children to receive at home.
  • Book Selection Committee - Provide expertise in our book selections - Be a part of this group - ideal for retired teachers and librarians.
  • Supply delivery - Help drop of supplies countywide
  • Program working group member - join an existing group working to identify expansion opportunities - perfect for people who are knowledgeable about the community and good at making connections.

Watch children light up and high school students transform into community leaders as they realize the powerful role they can play in the lives of children by being their reading role models.

  • Guest Reader/Mentor - One-time commitment for volunteers interested in reading to kids and mentoring teens.
  • Community Coordinator - Weekly commitment to coordinating with childcare centers and high school readers to ensure quality program implementation. Great opportunity for friends to share - a team of 2 volunteers per location is the goal.
  • Program working group member - join an existing group working to identify expansion opportunities - perfect for people who are knowledgeable about the community and good at making connections.
