About Roanoke Valley SPCA

1340 Baldwin Ave NE, ROANOKE, VA 24012, US

Mission Statement

We’re working to create a community where there are no homeless cats or dogs through the power of adoption, prevention and intervention.

The Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ("RVSPCA") limited intake, adoption and education center. We provide a safe and loving home for animals for as long as they need it. Only those animals suffering from conditions that are beyond help are ever euthanized.

The RVSPCA's is working to create a community where there are no homeless cats or dogs through the power of adoption, prevention and intervention.

We work to bring animals and people together.

We maintain that spaying, neutering and humane education are the solutions to homeless animals.

We provide services that address financial hardships, medical problems and behavioral challenges to enable animals to stay in their homes or be adopted.

Since 1916, the Roanoke Valley SPCA has made the welfare of homeless and unwanted animals a priority; as such, it has been the main proponent for animal rights in this region. Incorporated in 1958 in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Roanoke Valley SPCA is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

For many years, the RVSPCA operated from an antiquated farmhouse located in a flood plain. In 2001, a group of community leaders decided that the animal shelter could no longer continue to operate in this manner and initiated a capital campaign. Private funds were raised for the construction of the Roanoke Valley SPCA Adoption and Education Center, which opened in February 2004. The RVSPCA receives no federal, state, or local tax support; it is funded entirely by private donations, corporate contributions, grants, bequests, and income generated from services and special events.
