Our transportation program is made up of all volunteer drivers who pick-up clients from their homes, bring them to their cancer related appointment, and bring them back to their home. Rides are given MONDAY-FRIDAY between 8am and 5pm. Shifts are usually either in the morning or afternoon, or a full day, depending on your availability. We pick up clients in Peel region, Orangeville, Georgetown, and Bolton/Caledon, as well as drive to hospitals in the Peel region, Newmarket, and downtown Toronto; based on your level of comfort with driving, you tell us where you prefer to drive!

The following are the qualifications to become a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society:

1. Clean driving record- with less than 3 demerit points (we do run a MTO check)

2. Available during the weekdays (we do not give rides evenings or weekends)

3. Up to date car insurance with $1million liability

4. Own vehicle (or, you can use our van to drive into Toronto). All km’s driven in your own vehicle are reimbursed at .30 per km.

If you are interested in becoming a driver, please email bniemand@ontario.cancer.ca and let me know your availability to set up a meeting.
