ORGANIZATION: Alzheimer's Association Western New York

Volunteers provide companionship, supervision, and meaningful activity to an individual with dementia/Alzheimer's Disease, while providing temporary relief for the family caregiver. Individualized in-home respite are offered as well as group respite programs.

Activities may include hobbies, reading, conversation, playing cards or other games, etc.
Volunteers are not permitted to provide personal care.

Training is provided to all those interested. Background check is required and conducted as part of screening process.

Volunteers are needed throughout Western New York's eight county region!

Desired monthly commitment varies depending on programming. 3 to 4 hours per month commitment for Group Respite, and 4 hours to a maximum of 16 hours per month for In-Home Respite.

Description

We provide programs and services to those with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia and their families. The Western New York Chapter serves all eight counties of WNY including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming. We provide care consultations, a 24-hour helpline (1.800.272.3900), safety services, early stage programs, and education programs for caregivers, healthcare professionals and the general public. The Alzheimer's Association is also the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research. Together, we are elevating research, public policy, and awareness to unprecedented levels in pursuit of better treatments, a cure of a way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
