Share your love of plants with others by serving as a volunteer docent at the U.S. National Arboretum. Over the years, the Arboretum has become an increasingly popular destination for visitors of all ages. Estimated visitation is now half a million, with spring and fall weekends the busiest. Docents answer visitor questions and offer information on what to see and do. They will be stationed inside the newly renovated Administration Building and Visitor Center, at outdoor information stations, and within busy collections such as the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum, the National Herb Garden, and the Azalea Collections. Volunteers are needed for 3-hour shifts, especially on busy spring and fall weekends, between the hours of 10am-5pm. No experience is necessary, but volunteers must attend one of the scheduled Docent Trainings. This training will provide the foundation of information needed to serve as a docent. To register for this training or for more information, call the Volunteer Office at 202-245-4563 or email
