ANNUAL Event PLANNING COMMITTEE

Contact: kdoherty@batteredwomensnetwork.org

Agency Description:

Since 1980, the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network (The Network) has been dedicated to serving the needs of domestic violence survivors throughout metropolitan Chicago. Over the years, The Network’s membership has grown into a chain of nearly 100 organizations and individuals whose shared expertise has strengthened our collective voice. Through centralized resources, such as advocacy, education, and community outreach, every link in The Network’s chain plays a vital role in bringing an end to society’s tolerance of domestic violence in metropolitan Chicago.

Agency Mission:

The Network is a collaborative membership organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by domestic violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and the connection of community members to direct service providers.

Event Summary:

Each year, The Network invites our supporters to celebrate another successful year of programming at our large-scale annual benefit, Chicago Chefs Spring Into Action. This reception-style party brings nearly 300 guests together with some of their favorite chefs from Chicago’s unparalleled culinary scene, as well as notable mixologists, coffee and tea connoisseurs, and other amazing culinary figures. With this wide variety of purveyors, guest can nibble on tasting portions of the chefs’ favorite dishes, enjoy complimentary cocktails, bid on exciting live and silent auction items, watch our civic and community advocate awards ceremony, and mingle with other guests who recognize the importance of the work that we do. Next year’s event date is March 20, 2014 in the Wolf Point Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza.

Meeting Information & Location(s):

Larger Committee Dates: TBD (likely to be one Monday night per month)

At The Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network Administrative Office

1 E. Wacker Drive, Ste. 1630, Chicago, IL 60601

*Please note that sub-committee chairs may schedule additional in-person and/or over the phone meetings at their discretion.

Volunteer Involvement:

Planning Committee participation includes attending committee meetings, contributing to group discussions and brainstorming sessions, and actively recruiting event attendees, host committee members, and additional planning committee participants. In addition, we request that each of our Event Planning Committee members commit their time to one of our focused sub-committees.

Currently, the Chicago Chefs Spring Into Action committee has the need for assistance on two of our sub-committees: Auction Planning & Sponsorship. Each of these sub-committees has a Chair leading the group and will provide their sub-committee members with the information and tools necessary to make a successful contribution to the group.

Particular work on these sub-committees (and possibly the committee, overall) include:

  • Assist in strategic thinking and list creation of whom we should make requests
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of donation request letters
  • Assist in making follow-up phone calls, site visits (if necessary)
  • Assist in organizing secured support (sponsor recognition details, auction listings, etc)
  • Assist with post-event organization and reporting entailing: inputting donations made, updating attendee lists, creating and sending thank you letters to each sector of donors

To Express Interest:

Send an email to springintoaction@batteredwomensnetwork.org outlining your areas of interest, availability (per week), and notable skills to email address listed above. Please put "Event Committee" in subject line.

About The Network - Advocating Against Domestic Violence

Location:

33 N Dearborn Ave, Chicago, IL 60602, US

Mission Statement

The Network is a group of 40+ member organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by gender-based violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and connecting community members with direct service providers. We lead collaborative work to imagine and realize radical ways to respond to and end gender-based violence, focusing on the intersections between systemic violence and gender-based violence.

Description

The Network performs its work in four focus areas:

  1. First response: The Network runs Illinois’ Official Statewide 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline (877-863-6338) and serves as first responder for tens of thousands of Illinois residents each year. In FY2023, the hotline responded to over 32,000 calls & texts for help and information.
  2. Advocacy & Public Policy: The Network pursues an advocacy/policy agenda on behalf of victims and service providers. This Program works to change laws and regulations and presses for systems dealing with domestic violence to do so in ways that maximize the prevention of, and ultimately an end to, abuse.
  3. Professional Training: The Network’s Centralized Training Institute (CTI) presents expert training for human service and healthcare providers and criminal justice personnel.
  4. Member Services: The Network provides its members with a venue to work together on common policy initiatives, joint fundraising opportunities and capacity building.
