Bilingual Crisis Counselor

Description:

CAFY is looking for volunteers that are interested in working for a non-profit organization providing crisis services for victims of crime. Training is provided.

Community Advocates for Family & Youth (CAFY) is full social services organization working to prevent, support and educate about violence and victimization. We serve victims of crimes to help reduce trauma, hold offenders accountable, and stabilize victims involved in violent crimes. Trained victim advocates provide crisis intervention, case management, court education and accompaniment and post-trial support.

CAFY provides linguistically specific services to Hispanic victims as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervised counseling as an intern to victims in crisis.
  • Develop treatment plans.
  • Facilitate support group.
  • Attend regular supervision, training and debriefing sessions.

Requirements:

Minimum requirement of at least 2-3 years of undergraduate school focused in psychology, counseling, sociology, criminal justice, women’s studies and/or foreign language (particularly Spanish). Fluent in both English and Spanish.

Seeking candidates with excellent communication skills, clinical judgment, and who are detailed oriented, able to work in a team, and are open-minded regarding cultures, religions, and sexuality. Excellent opportunity for master level students needing their supervision hours.
