WOBO seeks a self-motivated, outgoing and skilled Oakland resident to help lead Oakland's premiere advocacy group in making the city a better place to walk and bike. This is a working Board, where each member commits to fundraise / donate a minimum of $1,000 per 12 months, but also actively takes on project(s) under her/his wings. Expected time commitment is approximately 15 to 20 hours per month. Board members must attend monthly Board meetings on 4th Wednesday evening of the month, and be available on a project-by-project basis.
Many professional development and skills-building opportunities are available. Board members also get hands-on experience and mentoring by collaborating and communicating with other community advocates, transportation officials, City Council and municipal and regional department heads in Oakland and across the Bay Area.
We encourage people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and interests to apply. Must be passionate about biking and walking, and a sustainable and equitable Oakland.

Mission Statement
Walk Oakland Bike Oakland's (WOBO) mission is to improve neighborhood quality of life in Oakland by making walking and bicycling safe, accessible, easy and fun.
Description
The goal of WALK OAKLAND - BIKE OAKLAND (WOBO) is to galvanize interest in improving Oakland's pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure by educating residents, workers, business owners, and commuters.Join Us Today!
Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) was founded in 2007 on the heels of a neighborhood that successfully engaged neighbors, businesses, schools and senior centers around a proposed new Whole Foods store. Together, the coalition won design changes that included new crosswalks and pedestrian amenities, and bike parking and bike access on and around the Whole Foods site.
The initial focus around a specific development project soon expanded to the mission of improving neighborhood quality of life by engaging residents and businesses to champion smart policies that make walking and biking in Oakland safe, easy, accessible and fun. We envision an Oakland in which people of all abilities, ages, and socio-economic situations have the choice to walk and bicycle to jobs, school, shopping, and for recreation, and thus, to enjoy the privilege of health.
Our current projects:
Bikeways Campaign to complete bicycling infrastructure that is fit for people of all ages and abilities, and to ensure equitable investments across the city that are effective, efficient and safe.
Oakland Urban Paths monthly walks to raise awareness and to create community through a common interest in the 200+ urban pathways throughout the city.
Parklets Pilot that allows private businesses to transform on-street auto parking spaces into public places for people to sit and enjoy the scenery.
Policy strategies to activate the community in Area Specific Planning processes, track council-specific Planning Commission decisions and advocate for smart Complete Streets policies in planning and implementing bicycling and pedestrian facilities.
Oaklavia - temporary car-free streets that invite thousands to come play in the streets.
