Family House is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable and supportive "home away from home" for patients and their families who have traveled to Pittsburgh to receive medical care at local hospitals. Our houses are nestled in the heart of the Pittsburgh medical community in the Oakland and Shadyside areas. House Volunteers work in four-hour shifts at each house doing a variety of tasks from answering the phone, checking in new guests, delivering clean linens and offering a warm welcome to those travelers who arrive in a strange city with so much on their minds. Mission Statement
Family House provides a special "home away from home" for adult patients and/or their families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious or life-threatening illnesses.
Description
By offering convenient, affordable housing in a home-like environment, through a network of support, comfort and compassion, Family House reduces emotional and financial stress for people facing a desperate medical crisis in a city where they are strangers.
Family House currently has three houses operating: University Place at 116 Thackeray Street, Neville at 514 N Neville Street, and Shadyside at 5245 Centre Avenue.
