Collection Volunteers (or interns) assist with collection care, enter or update catalog records of artifacts, help with programming or special events, assist with exhibit design, write reports and exhibit text, conduct research on artifacts or for exhibits. Collection volunteers may clean or move artifacts, take inventory of the collection, or otherwise assist the curator with the management, care, and display of the collection. Collection volunteers are vital to the organization as they help the curator to handle the large volume of artifacts in the museum's collection and their projects often help to keep the museum's exhibits up to date for the public's viewing.
