The Gulf Coast Symphony (GCS) exists to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Lee County by producing a diverse, innovative, and balanced program of performances, events, and community and education projects that reach the widest possible public. GCS builds general arts awareness, develops new audiences for the arts, and assists in the development of future performers. The overarching goal of everything that GCS does is to create community through music.
Founded in 1996 by its current music director and conductor, Dr. Andrew Kurtz, the Gulf Coast Symphony is the premier community orchestra of Southwest Florida and one of the most dynamic community orchestras in the United States. We are recognized for our high-quality symphonic performances as well as our active community engagement and commitment to arts education.
We achieve our mission by bringing the community together to experience exciting, live symphonic music. Our emphasis is upon community, concerts, and kids through our educational outreach offerings.
GCS repertoire appeals to a broad demographic: family concerts with educational activities including our Musical Discovery Zone; widely popular symphonic pops concerts with performers such as Tony award-winning Broadway stars and legendary jazz artists; and classical concerts that feature a blend of modern, traditional and commissioned works.
Our ultimate goal is to unite our community, using music as the means of creating that synergy.
