For over fifteen years, Title 1 Schools (poverty level) have benefitted by our tutor/mentoring program. We help children learn to read. It's said that children learn to read from kindergarten to third grade. From third grade on, they need to read to learn. Literacy makes the difference in a child's life. Our one on one approach gives both the child and the tutor a chance to get to know each other. Our volunteers receive training, a "tool kit", and support from a Reading Specialist and a former School Counselor. We have made a huge impact on Metro-Atlanta's needy youth. This is a great opportunity for seniors to use the skills and knowledge to help a child. We've had tutors who have worked with this program until they were in their nineties.
