We are always in need of volunteer tutors for our Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. No formal teaching experience necessary - we will train on techniques and approaches for working with adult literacy students. Expanding a persons literacy skills helps them reach their potential.

Mission Statement
The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec (LVK) is to improve reading, writing and related literacy skills of adults so each individual may reach their potential, and to promote and advocate for literacy. LVK also promotes intergenerational literacy with a focus on family literacy to enhance children and adults’ educational success and expand opportunities for families to promote lifelong learning and break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
Description
Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec provides free, confidential, one-to-one tutoring services for area adults who struggle with literacy issues and for adults for whom English is not their first language. We provide training in effective strategies and techniques for working with adult learners. LVK is an affiliate of ProLiteracy and receives partial funding through the Kennebec Valley United Way. LVK specifically supports traditionally underserved populations to ensure they have the literacy, technology, and communication skills needed to be self-sufficient.
